First off you should know that wine is not some food that you need to keep cool and that means that your home refrigerator will simply not suffice as a good storage place for your wine.
Ever since the medieval times, wine has been stored in underground cellars, and today the habit still persists. That’s because among the many things that a cellar delivers, the right temperature is one of them. And the rule is the same for white and red wine. Aspects of increasing temperature and variations in temperatures as far as the four seasons go make your kitchen an unsuitable place to store your wine. That is unless of course you have a wine cooler refrigerator. These kinds of fridges are meant for the solitary purpose of wine storage as they provide the optimum kind of environment for wine to age gracefully in.
You should adjust the thermostat of the fridge to the 12-15° C. That is precisely the same kind of temperature that a wine cellar has and is thus considered as the optimum range. A wine cooler is probably not for everybody. If you are an occasional drinker and only enjoy a glass of wine whenever there is a special occasion you probably don’t need a wine cooler, but if you like to summarize each week by drowning yourself in the great taste of fermented grapes, then you should seriously consider investing in one. Attending to the wine storage is for your gain as a well stored bottle is a great tasting bottle. And don’t make exceptions for red or white wines as they require the same kind of treatment as far as storage is concerned.
