Gifts for French Family?
I will be staying with two different host families when I go to France in two weeks. What is a nice present for the parents and a 12 year old girl and 12 year old boy? So far, I have some Wisconsin wine and chocolate coverd cherries for the parents, a little rhinestone necklace for the girl, and a book of 50 state quarters for the boy… Is this all okay?
I heard it is rude to bring a lot of presents for the French, but is that even true?
The cherries are a Wisconsin thing, so thats why I’m bringing those.
No, not at all. In fact those are some really awesome presents you got.
Sure you don’t wanna visit Belgium instead?
From my experience, French people are very normal in this thing, and will be more than flattered that you graced them with a few presents. It shows that you take interest in them and wish to share a little bit of your culture.
How could anyone consider this rude?
I’d just be careful on what to bring or give if these people are Muslims. They have strict traditions in the exchanging of gifts and there is quite a strong population of Muslims in certain parts of France.
